Our Values
Click on each Value
We respect ourselves, our school and each other, and understand that our attitudes and behaviours have an impact on the people around us.
We are responsible for our actions and understand that all have a role to play in creating our safe and fair space.
We are inclusive and understand that everyone is unique, learns in their own way, and everyone needs to be supported differently.
SWPBS - School Wide Positive Behaviour Support
Leitchville Primary School is a proud School-wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) School. SWPBS is a framework that brings together school communities to develop positive, safe, supportive learning cultures.
SWPBS assists schools to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for children and young people.
When SWPBS is implemented well, teachers and students have more time to focus on relationships and classroom instruction. Students and staff benefit from:
*increased respectful and positive behaviour
*increased time focused on instruction
*improved social-emotional wellbeing
*positive and respectful relationships among students and staff
*increased adoption of evidence-based instructional practices
*a predictable learning environment with improved perceptions of safety and increased attendance.
The framework supports schools to identify and successfully implement evidence-based whole-school practices to enhance learning outcomes for children and young people.
Behaviour Expectations
Our school’s behaviour expectations were built from the ground up, with strong input and ideas from our students, staff and wider community. Through open discussions, collaboration and shared decision-making, our students played a key role in shaping the Behaviour Matrix that guides the way we learn, interact and support one another each day.
Because our expectations were created from within, our students have a deep understanding and respect for what they represent. They don’t just follow the expectations — they live and breathe them. This ownership helps ensure that our values are reflected in every classroom, every playground interaction and every part of school life.
Our community takes great pride in the fact that our Behaviour Matrix isn’t something imposed, it’s something created together, giving everyone a sense of connection, pride and purpose in maintaining our positive school culture.
Responding to Behaviour
At our school, we believe that positive behaviour begins with shared values and genuine student voice. Our behaviour expectations were created by our students, for our students, giving them a real sense of ownership and pride in the way we treat one another. Because these expectations were created through our students’ voice, they are lived and breathed every day across the school.
In line with our Student Wellbeing and Engagement Policy, we understand that at times, students may need extra support to meet these expectations. Our Minor and Major Behaviour Response process aligns with our Positive Behaviour Matrix, ensuring that all responses are fair, consistent, and supportive.
This approach is a key reason we continue to see extremely low levels of problem behaviour across our school. Our students understand, value, and take responsibility for their actions, making our school a calm, respectful, and positive place to learn and grow.
