Kitchen Garden & Bush Tucker Program
Here at Leitchville Primary School, we have a bright and vibrant Bush Tucker garden.
This garden was created with help from the team at Wolithiga Wares. The vision is to bring Artifacts, Native Australian Foods and Education into our school and the surrounding community.
Our garden is flourishing with Australian Native Herbs and Vegetables that we harvest and use for our weekly cooking sessions.
How students benefit from a Bush Tucker Garden:
- Developing “nature smarts” from an early age through first-hand experiences.
- Strengthening their understanding and awareness of food and biodiversity.
- Practising teamwork, communication and critical thinking skills in an interesting setting.
- Getting hands-on learning opportunities outside the classroom environment.
- Learning about plants, soil, water, pests and beneficial insects.
- Eating herbs and veggies they’ve grown themselves.
